Job Description

No surprises here, but I still thought you’d enjoy reading the expectations list Stan sent to Worldventure:

  • To serve our youth group as their youth pastor.  This includes, but is not limited to being their Shepherd; teaching them the Word of God, equipping them for the work of ministry, discipleship, counseling, pouring his heart and life into our young people.
  • To develop leaders within the youth group to serve in whatever capacity the Lord calls them to.  Specifically to develop one or multiple youth pastors from within the group of Dutch nationals; Joey basically needs to multiply himself.
  • To develop and organise our Youth ministry.
  • To lead, organise, administer outreach to our community and (short-term) foreign missions.
  • To seek and create opportunities for our youth to serve as missionaries/interns at established Calvary Chapels in the U.S.A. to gain practical ministry experience.
  • To encourage our young people to take advantage of the many opportunities that Calvary Chapel provides to equip them beyond what we are able at the local church level.  Such as the Calvary Chapel Bible Colleges and various other schools that CC has to offer.
  • To learn the Dutch language.

Though I am trying not to fill in too much of our expectations for what ministry will be like (since it could all change once we’re on the ground), I can’t help it.  Immediately my mind is set to thinking: “So, we could do this…and this…and this…and…”

Missions Cookies?

It has been incredible these last few days to watch as God has been providing for the garage sale our senders are putting together for this Sunday.  While I had originally thought the sale’s main purpose would be helping to get rid of Kate and my stuff.  Now, with the addition of the fresh vision of our senders, the sale has become a get-rid-of-their-stuff/fundraiser aimed at raising Kate and My airfare to the Netherlands!

It has been awesome to see people get behind this.  From the donations that are now overflowing my parents’ garage to the cookies I hear are being made to sell, I find myself thinking over and over, “This is the whole church taking the whole Gospel to the whole world!”  So many times I when people hear missions they think, “What can I do?”  Come check out the sale this weekend, and you’ll find your answer in the actions of all the people it took to clean, price, setup and run this sale.  This is missions.  It is no less.  Thank you for your ministry alongside us!  We could not do it without you–nor would we want to!

This Isn’t Missions as Your Grandpa Did It…

I just had a twenty minute instant messaging session on Facebook with Shey Macnack, (one of the two students who just returned home from a three week stay in Vancouver), Zilka Gerritsen (who have offered to host Kate and I in Holland for as long as we need), and Kari Hagelganz (who is co-leading Crossroads’ Amsterdam team, presently finding their feet in ministry).  Fifty, twenty and even ten years ago, this would have been impossible, or at best unlikely.  Today the possibilities are endless!

Kari and I discussed their budget and changing ministry needs and outlook (check out her blog!).  Shey told me she has been asked to share with the church about her time in Holland on Sunday.  And Zilka and I began making connections which I am sure will be a huge help as Kate and I actually settle in to life in Holland.  With this sort of potential, I cannot even imagine how we, as the worldwide body of Christ, might minister together in the coming years!

Grandpa Stan!

Stan and Anaya

Thought I would pass on this picture of Grandpa Stan (pastor of Cross Culture Calvary Chapel in Hoofddorp Holland) and his granddaughter Anaya.  What a cutie!  (Sorry Stan, that was about Anaya…)

Looks like you guys are having a good time Stan!
