The Canals Have Frozen!

December 31, 2008

Nathan, Anna and Kate and I took our first steps out on the iced canals this afternoon!  How sweet!  In the short time we have left before we need to head back to the house (we’re currently freeloading from the Marinussens).  BTW–apparently the Dutch take it upon themselves to re-enact the great battle scenes of WWII on New Years using only fireworks.  So far we’ve heard some pretty amazing ones–including one that shattered a four by six foot glass panel at a bus stop.  Crazy!
Life is going well here in the frozen land of Holland–though our internet has been slow to be sep up (as I’m sure you’ve noticed).  The house is slowly transforming from a construction zone (thanks to IKEA) into a place of ministry.  We’re looking forward to spending Friday and Saturday training the leaders of the youth for what we believe God has in store for our church and this country.  Second Christmas (the day after Christmas is also celebrated by the Dutch) we had the youth over to hang and watch movies and was a great beginning.

It has been hard being out of touch with our families and the rest of the world during this season, and we’re looking forward to getting internet at the house soon (hopefully)–though I’m guessing it won’t be any sooner than a week :o(.

Also, our visas have not made any progress recently, and it looks like we’re going to have to take it court (which Stan is fully prepared to do).

Alright, we have to head back to the house to beat the cold and the war zone…

Miss you all and look forward to Skypeing soon!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

J, K and JW
