Fear the Glorious God

December 23, 2010

Continuing my journey through Deuteronomy I was reflecting on our gathering last Thursday when this verse jumped out at me:

If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, the LORD your God [will pour out judgments] (Deuteronomy 28:58 ESV)

There it is.  If you’re not fearing the God of glory, the only one who’s approval matters, you must be fearing someone or something else in his place, and that usurping of his rightful place must be punished.

God is glorious.  He cannot be “out gloried” by anyone.  He comes second to no one in the honor due him.  Fear no one before him.
